Medicare and social security are unsustainable, we are $16 trillion in debt, the govt is strangling entrepreneurship and business through regulation, 50 million + are on food stamps, half the country pays zero taxes, prices on every conceivable item continues to rise and all I see posted are topics on gay marriage...and we question why we have all these problems...I would venture to say our priorities are screwed up...who the hell cares who gets married when the true unemployment number is probably around 16%....unfortunately, we are screwed!

Got to have our junk mail everyday. That is real important. Who cares that we lose all that money as long as seniors get their junk mail to enjoy

Yet, we have to let people love hairy asses, with a certificate, so they can feel special.  Look over here people, look over here-----> Nothing to see, but war on Womens, taking away the civil rights of gays(you know some fight in the military), calling Hispanics, white, when they commit a crime against blacks(that could be Obama's son). Titanic going down, but keep playing that violin...Amnesty, and war on Old people coming soon.....

They could cut access to rural areas, but I guess what would be the point then? It would stop being "right" to have equal postal service. I'm not sure why they don't just raise the price of a stamp to like 80 cents and run 3 days a week. I guess there's a lot of legislators who have constituents that would complain.

I have seen several sources that suggest the us post office is only losing money because of an unfair law passed by congress in 2006 that mandates that "the USPS prefund its future health care benefit payments to retirees for the next 75 years in an astonishing ten-year time span."

Privatize the post office and end the monopoly on first class mail.
In the meantime what they should do is charge "X" dollars per month for a mail box and let the carriers work on commission getting say 80% of mail box revenue from their route while the post office gets the postage. That would make independent contractors out of thousands of their employees and would take that expense off the USPS.
