Fishing in Gulfport area

Kid's gotta baseball tourney at Gulfport Sportsplex this weekend, and we're staying 2 miles from it.
Anyone got any good advice for a dad that can't get to the camp at Four Point. Somewhere from the shoreline or inland that I could kill the last hours of sunlight throwing a topwater for a little action?

If you have a flounder light you may be able to pick up a few along the beach (check winds/weather first) (made a trip last year and got 12 nice size) also, I think there is a fishing pier and bait shop by Gulfport Harbor.
