Xfer of Toyota Extended Warranty

So I talked to Toyota Financial last week requesting to transfer the extended warranty on my dad's car who passed in Jan 2011 over to me. I had no idea he even had bought the warranty so was completely unaware until I went poking around in his email account. I provided the death certificate and the title showing in my name and a letter requesting they move the warranty to me as it is transferable.
However, I call today and status is Cancellation Pending instead of transfer. Apparently he paid about 1k for it so I don't want to lose it.
I believe it could be due to the time since the car title is was changed is greater than 90 days based on what I can gather by googling. Do I have any recourse or am I screwed? They wouldn't give me any other information until it was processed and said I would be notified via mail and she was going to put a note to the business person handling the request that it was a transfer request and not cancellation.
I would have never submitted the paperwork had I known this
