Best time to plant Satsuma trees?

Will probably be picking up a couple for my new house backyard since it is a lot of open space w/sun. When is the best time to plant these or did I miss the window? Also, my pops was talking about grinding up some oyster shells and fish heads into the soil before I plant the trees; anyone recommend this?

If I plant early May, is there a greater chance of it dying?

unlike regular trees, fruit trees take alot more moisture to stay alive. honestly, i've only planted two fruit trees in the summer and both died within weeks. i would wait until next fall

Now should be fine. Water it daily.

Or just don't let it starve for water.

like all trees, the best time to plant is when most plants are dormant (late winter)....basically, if you see trees for sale in home depot, that is a good time to plant them...

fact is, you can plant anytime you want, but you will have to keep a really close eye on the moisture....buy a $10 moisture meter from the wal marks and water every time it starts to get dry around the roots...

I planted one in Feb and it is doing great. I water every other day. It is loaded down with tiny fruit. Not sure what to think of that. No way that small tree will be able to support the weight once they start to get bigger

I asked that question a couple of weeks ago on here. People said the tree would probably drop the fruit.

If planting Satsumas in Covington, or northshore in general make sure to plant the trees on the south side of a building on the property to help shield from the north wind in the winter. I have planted several this way and it works. Once they get about 6-8 years under them they are less troublesome.

I wouldn't plant trees this late. You are just about in what is our normal drought. Very tough on tress, new plants in general. Can it be done yes, but not favorably. Of course I get the impression the OP is going to do it, just looking for someone to say it's ok.

Yea, I'm still going to at least try. I will be picking up a couple small trees on my way back from Venice next weekend
