been toying around with tuning a guitar an octave higher. thought it would sound nice and chimy. but i didnt know there was already a setup for this. everyone uses their own guages and i dont feel like going through 4 or 5 setups to find a decent one.
i tried just octaving the lower three strings higher, but most people octave the bottom four. must be the better way. i might just have to buy the octave set off of a twelve string and use them.
let me know if you like that sound and if you have experience with it. what guages did you use.

I have a tele tuned this way - I had to use two sets of gtr strings to make it work (I use D'Addario 9's for the octave higher notes).
The sound was very chimey - I wrote/produced a few songs in my home studio to send to Nashville and I have been trying to nail that huge sound those guys get from tracking numerous guitars at different tunings (and including a nashville tuned guitar to help blend in some of the upper chord voicings).
It's fun, but I do miss playing on my tele with standard tuning...
