Couple bass fishing questions

1) When fishing a weightless texas rigged senko or similar bait, do you fish it more like a wacky rig, or more like a fluke? Or in other words do you usually let it drop, pick it up, repeat or do you twitch it back in. I've started using it as a replacement to wacky rigging for senko sized stuff to prevent snags. Just looking for some feedback

2) What kind of rod power and action are you looking for when you throw soft plastic swimbaits, on a weighted swimbait hook? Picked up a pack to try in a couple places, but not sure what I should throw them on.

re: Couple bass fishing questions

I fish a senko often, and most of today actually.

My style:

Med or med-hvy 7' rod
Fluorocarbon 14lb

No slip sinker usually. 2-3 hook
Sink. Slow pull up w a twitch or two.
Repeat.

I fish areas heavy in grass cover. Wacky rig does not hold up in that grass. However wacky rig on rocks or mud banks is good.
Wacky rig only works with a really good weed less hook and o ring.

re: Couple bass fishing questions

I have a lowrider weightless worm rod that does great with them. 6'7" MH/XF.

That's how I've been fishing it, basically like I do a wacky rig, cast it, let it drop, twitch it back up a bit, let it drop, repeat.

When I throw a wacky rig I usually use a finesse worm and put it on a size 2 mustad weighted weedless hook. I don't use O rings, but I have a bunch of 1/4" cut sections of heat shrink tubing I cut and I have 2 different sizes that fit perfectly snug around a finesse worm or senko. Slide it up to where I put the hook through and stick hook through heat shrink and worm. Basically acts as reinforcement so it won't tear. I've heard mcDonalds straws work well for that too.

I have a wacky tool that's pretty easy, but the cabelas brand senko worms have the o ring built into the worm mold. It's cheaper and easy.

texas rigged senko

I always let it sink then pop it up once or twice, repeat, slowly. I've never had much luck on a wacky rig, what about it beats texas riggin?

It's slower and has a really subtle action. If you know where the fish are and throw it on top of them they have a hard time letting it by it seems. I used to fish the hell out of it, but now I usually only use it when I can't get a bite on a regular texas rig or when I keep getting hits when throwing in a certain place, like right against trees, with a texas rig. Switch to wacky and cast against the trees, you can fish that one little area slower and sometimes it helps.

Gotcha. In that situation I've always just changed my speed with the texas, but I can see how a wacky would look like a little less work to a stubborn fish.

I fish them all the same. Way slower than most people.
