| Best golf ball for the money? (Posted on 4/10/12 at 4:34 pm)
I'm about to head down to play a few of the RTJ trail courses for a few days and was wondering what kind of ball people are playing and what might be the best ball for the money. Im about a 15 handicap and was down to 5 a few years back when I wasn't as busy with work; so I know how to get spin out of a ball and work with it a bit. I've played a few different brands of ball with varying degrees of success. I'm playing a Taylor-Made Burner TP form last year they are okay, but honestly I've had better spin control with the Top Flite D2 Feel better than the Taylor made, so I probably won't be playing it again. I wouldn't mind playing some Pro V1's, see how they are, but I can't justify shelling out $45 for some balls I'm going to shank into the water. Anyway I just wanted to see what people might be playing and if anyone has found a really good ball for what they paid. Long story short, what are you playing? Do you like it? You think the price for them is good?

I love playing the Titleist NXT Tour. They are soft and still great for distance off the tee. They don't spin near as much as a Pro V. My swing speed isn't high enough to work the Pro V like it is designed. They are also about $10-$12 cheaper per dozen, that helps.

There's always good deals on balls that aren't pro v. Best for the money IMO...Pro V.

Honestly, I like the performance that I get out of Maxfli Noodles. I think it's a great value ball especially if you put em in the drink or the sticks all the time.

Pro V1/V1x practice balls. They are the same as regular pro v's but have some sort of paint run or blemish, nothing that will affect play whatsoever. They are about 30 bucks a dozen at edwinn watts. By far the best deal out there.

If you don't want to play with Pro-V1s, then go with another brand of Titleist. You can get the NXT for about $30, or the DT-Solo or the new Velocity for less than that.

All of the good golf balls are going to be similar in price to pro v's. If cost is the issue then just go with some NXT's or something similar.

My Ball of choice is Nike 20XL-S. Before I used to pick up One Platinums/Tour, which you can still get at Academy for $29.99. For my swing speed/type, I find I get more stop and drop than ProV1's. If you aren't looking to spend $45/box, I recommenced Titleist NXT Tour. Stay away from the Nike Mid Grade stuff.

Senator and Judge down in Prattville, then Ross Bridge and Ridge course at Oxmoor Valley. Should be a good time, and I should lose only about three dozen balls in the process.

played 3 different balls over a long weekend golfing over in mobile. Nike NDX was the best ball i hit. Maxfli distance were ok but seemed to be inconsistent. Nike Mojo balls were solid also.

Good choices. The RTJ courses in the Shoals are outstanding as well if you have time.

I have found at my local walmart believe it or not some "refurbished" pro v1's. Not sure what they do to them but they look brand new. A dozen for $20. I can't tell a difference in performance and I can live with that price.
