I have about $1k to put towards my one year olds college fund. At the same time i have about $1k left to fulfill my 2011 Roth contribution. I can't do both, so should i start a 529 or just "stash" this in my Roth?

Why not split it? They say cover your own retirement but I don't feel that it's a one size fits all deal. Some people may value having more money for their child etc.

I'd split. If that 1000 is really needed to help for retirement, do it, because it will be a lot easier to get a loan for your kids school than it will when you are retired
