Anthony Evans at Norfolk State

I think this guy has what it takes to be the next
S. Smart.
-He is young, has a ton of swagga, and seems like a very game in-game coach and game manager. Many times they were just out-manned when facing big time programs. He coached kids up that got overlooked at most places. Imagine what he can do with even more talented kids.
-He seems to like the up-tempo offense and high-pressure defense.
-Played point guard in college and holds a Degree in Marketing
-Recruited two 1000-point scores, some all-conference players and runner-ups, conference defensive player of the year
- He, being from NY, has east coast ties where the most talent is in basketball. With so much talk about wanting a guy with Louisiana ties, people are overlooking the fact that basketball is much different from football. Football's most talent is in the south. Basketball is in the east. It doesn't matter where you're from if you can recruit. Players will follow a great coach anywhere.
-Players love and respect him
-Made it to the second round of the NCAA Tourn.
I think we should at least give this guy some consideration if we can't find that big-name coach that everyone wants to make a splash.

The candidate definitely needs a degree in marketing because selling people on showing up at the PMAC has not been easy since Daddy Dale left

There should be no stone unturned in this process. I know we don't have a lot of time, but we need to make a Nick Saban/Les Miles type hire to feed the fans wishes for basketball.
If we can't land the equivalent for bball, then we should look at a few guys like Anthony Evans.

Tell us what you know about Evans prior to this year? He was 26-10 in the MEAC and his team pulled off an upset in the 1st round of NCAA tournament then got hammered in the next round. I honestly don't know much about him or Norfolk St but if they hadn't pulled off the upset of Missouri would you even be promoting him?

I know very little about his background, but I REALLY liked the way he interacted with his players when watching them play in both NCAA games this year.

How do you think a new, young coach gets noticed? Hell nobody knew S. Smart until he reached the tourney either. Happens all the time.
It's called making your name hot. There's been a lot of well-known big-name coaches who everyone had known for years that get new jobs and don't do sh*t. You never know. As we just learned it's more that just X's and O's these days. It's about players as well.
If he can get the talent here and coach, then I don't see why he would have to be legendary already to be considered.

I think so too man. There are a lot of threads about him, but the concensus seems to be just as you said, a pipe dream. I would love the hire. I just don't think it's going to happen.
So many of our fans think it will be easy to fill our coaching vacancy, but no big time coach has been beating the door down. Football is easy. We would have them lined up around the corner because the football recruiting talent is plentiful. Basketball no so much.
At this point in time I'm highly doubting that we will be able to lure any big name coach this year to LSU. We're not there in basketball yet. You have to give a coach the opportunity first before he can be great.
It's time to change to perception at LSU. We need a youthful coach who can relate to the players today and bring about an LSU Renassaince.

My thoughts exactly. We may need a coach to grow with. Supposedly he only makes less than 200k per year and his AD has been quoted as saying he there's no way he would say or do anything to hold anyone back from his school that is trying to better themselves. The Scott Drew talk is heating up on the rant now, but if we can't land him, then I think Evans should be given a call. He'll be cheap.

it cost money to recruit the east coast and its hard to spend money going out there and talking to kids who dont want to come this far south

I think this guy has the look and swagg to relate with any kid in the south. I really like his feel for the game and his players. If I had a personal darkhorse in this race, it would be him. Someone "affordable" young, bright, and swagg.

I think he can have success recruiting right here in the south. But, if there is a stud he wants from the east I don't think it will be as bad as some think.

...You don't need a marketing degree to sell LSU basketball.
You need to win consistantly to get people to show up to the PMAC.
If you don't have a good product, they aren't showing up. That's not just true at LSU. It's true at any university in America.

I'm well aware and pretty sure e have a team who does that.
