oops hit post

But- LSU has had plenty of tradition in college athletics. If anything, now is the right time to elevate basketball the way football was elevated.

The two sports are fairly parallel, historically:

football prior to Saban, all the way back to the early 60's- good to very good, not quite able to win it all. But known

basketball- prior to Dale Brown- known for having the Pistol, the single greatest player ever. Dale's tenure- consistently good, usu in the NCAA's, with occasional runs to the Final Four. Prior to SEC expansion, LSU was the only team to seriously challenge Kentucky on an annual basis.

With the right hire, we could return to that

History and the fact that we are a "football" school.

IF LSU wanted to fork out the money......they aren't.

Just depends on how successful our leadership wants basketball to be.

That just helps sell the school to student athletes IMO.

The PMAC was filled in the early 90's every game and with a good program it could be again.

South Carolina was able to pull in a pretty decent coach. Don't think they are a basketball school.

But history shows that we can be a basketball school as well.

Elite coaches want to be at a school that their sport is center stage. Of course there are a couple of exceptions but LSU isn't one of them.

They're not. The people on here who say that have inferiority complexes to begin with.

truth hurts. The next coach needs to sell the program to the fans. Got to do better than 5-6 thousand a game..

I think South Carolina was just looking for a coach at the perfect time.

Also the reason LSU shouldn't waste their time looking for an "elite" coach is the same reason Kentucky football will never steal a head coach from LSU, Alabama, Texas, USC, Ohio State, etc.

there are several answers.

1. we pay far less than market value
2. facilities are average at best even with recent renovations
3. support from fans, administration, boosters is lukewarm

but $$$$ is by far the main reason, $$$$ for salary for HC, ASST, and Recruiting Budget and $$$$ for facility upgrades and $$$$ for program support from TAF types

Kentucky football is not on the same level as LSU basketball, historically. Kentucky is king in basketball. Florida is next, but until Donovan won his 2 titles, we were above them. And we still made the Final Four one of the years the Gators won it all.

You can win here. It's already been proven. Dale made us relevant, but he wasn't the top coach in the nation. John Brady wasn't probably even top 50, but he got us in the tourney a few times and made it to the Final Four. Imagine what a truly good coach could do

Didn't have any before Dale Brown.

Overstatement. The student section regularly houses all of 10 students, and we had no one show up to support the tigers in the SEC TOURNAMENT in NEW ORLEANS on a Friday afternoon.

Any elite coach has to be looking at LSU as a major project, at best.

- Not nationally prominent and in an average recruiting region.
- A team that was destroyed in the NIT and is losing arguably their best two big men.
- A rabid and demanding fan base that is going to expect 20 wins and NCAA appearances immediately, despite the previous note.

I'm not saying LSU can't return to the Dale Brown days, but I am asking this: If you are an elite coach with plenty of opportunities at currently established, elite basketball programs (this year or looking forward into the future), would you seriously be excited about coming here?
