The suspension was supposed to be 4/1/2012-4/1/2013. Now it will be 4/16/2012-4/16/2013.

Seems like that would have been a very important 2 weeks preparing for next years draft that has been lost. Now he only has one week to prepare.

I'm pretty sure the suspension ends after the Superbowl.

Yes it does. It isnt a year long. And apparently he may be able to call the team or talk to the coaches or something, but he cannot actually go to any practices or anything.

The NFL upheld its discipline in the New Orleans Saints bounty case, meaning head coach Sean Payton will begin his year-long suspension April 16.

Notice it says year long, not season long

Glad to see it just for the NFL year, term should be more specific than "year long".

the gained time now probably is more beneficial than the lost time later.

The previously announced suspension definitely said until the day after the SB.

The appeal did what it was meant to do. Buy some time to get things in order and find out the exact guidelines for the suspensions. Anything else would have been lagniappe.

As it is, there's a chance that they could get their 2013 2nd round pick back and have some of the financial repercussions lessened. So, I can't see how anything bad came of this.

The guys that win the most out of this are Drew Brees and his agent. You know they're sitting pretty right now.

This from the CBS article:

quote:

It's worth noting that the suspensions for Payton, Loomis and Vitt do not automatically just "end" -- Commissioner Goodell "will review the status" for all three and "determine their eligibility for reinstatement."

Sean Payton's suspension without pay for the 2012 NFL season will begin on April 16.

Notice how it says season, and not year.
