i don't know how long the ban will be, but i wouldn't be surprised if he never works in the nfl again, regardless of the length of the ban.

re: ESPN debate on the length of Gregg Willams' ban

It's getting worse daily for GW. It's looking more and more like he was a renegade psycho. The tapes where he talks about how, "I run the defense without any interference from the FO." are very damaging.

I'm thinking minimum of two seasons, max of lifetime (should video evidence come out that he ran organized bounties elsewhere or someone can prove he ordered a player seriously injured, it happened and GW paid out for it.)

ETA: this is what I think will happen- not what I think *should* happen.

So then where do we draw the line on allowing second chances in the NFL because there are a lot of unsavory characters in the league who have done a wide variety of wrong things and none of those involved a lifetime ban.

Eventually people will forgive and forget. Just like they did with Mike Vick. He will be back in the league.

i'm not saying anything about a lifetime ban...i'm just saying unless some serious repair work is done to his reputation, i don't think anyone will hire him.

That clip is shortened from what ESPN showed tonight. After Woodson and Bruschi spoke they had Chris Carter on the phone and he said ban him forever. Didn't Chris Carter get a second chance in the league himself after his Eagles career?

Yeah but don't forget he's a former Viking, meaning he's just another butthurt Vikes fan.

If players who were "victims" of it are understanding of it then everyone not involved should keep their opinions to themselves.

They won't lifetime ban him but they'll make it clear that anyone hiring him will be watched "very closely."

This way, if he never makes it back in, they can say that they were willing to give him another shot but nobody wanted him.

Neither Williams nor Payton should ever be allowed to coach in the NFL again.

re: ESPN debate on the length of Gregg Willams' ban

I find it completely inconceivable that Payton did not know what Williams was doing. He can claim ignorance all he wants, but that has he coached in ignorance this whole time? This is a guy who has bragged about knowing the smallest detail about how the organization is run, even going so far as saying he won't keep team cooks who don't want to be there and put in there all for the franchise.

The fact that Payton later tried to cover up the entire thing is even more evidence that he knew about it and did not care. If he were as ignorant about the situation as he claimed, why, when the NFL came calling, did teach his employees to lie in order to try to cover it up?

Payton is a blemish to the city of New Orleans. He has shown no remorse other than a plainly stated apology that did not have a smell of honesty but rather, a smell of obligation of having to say, "Sorry." The apology was really, "Sorry we got caught. I have to say sorry, but I did not do anything wrong." I have no respect for Payton and will not cheer for the Saints as long as he is the coach. Payton must go.

I guess we'll all just have to pick up your slack then. Who will you cheer for now? And are you 100% positive that that team doesn't have similar coaching tactics? I'm still waiting on the audio tapes from every other def coord in the league.
