Minnesota LB Gary Tinsley found dead in apt

Cause unknown so far. Why does this seem to happen 2-3 times every offseason? What are these kids doing to themselves?

NFL life expectancy is only 54 years old. It's insane how much abuse those guys take. It's almost not worth it to play in the league.

Damn that sucks. But to answer your question, there are over 8,000 D-1 college football players. It' not crazy to think that 2-3 of those guys will make a mistake, or be at the wrong place at the wrong time that cost them their lives.

Think it has more to do with what they do to their body when they are not on the field than on the field.

A lot of the bigger but pure muscle guys like Lb's usually have a strained heart from it working so hard and much. Add in other supplements or drugs and you have a walking time bomb. Not saying steroids or cocaine caused his death or others, but it doesn't even take something as powerful as those to cause a problem sometimes.

shite happens. Tyrone Duplessis of La Tech was found dead in his apartment a few months back. Was nothing he did, he had a heart defect which caused a massive heart attack.

I don't know if it's their fault but this is my point. It seems like college football players dying randomly is almost not surprising anymore, there has to be some reason. Over straining their heart makes sense I guess

no one gives a shite about college baseball but SEC fans and some of the biggest tragedies in the history of sports have been the deaths of college basketball players. (Bias, Gathers, Dennehy)

Well, you rarely hear about Rbs, Wr, or Qbs dying in the offseason. Its usually a bigger guy like a lineman or Lb. Usually these guys have 230+ pounds on them and they are solid muscle meaning they train all time, plus Lbs tend to run a lot more as well. Its like a heart in a big dog, the heart just isn't big enough in those dogs and they die early. Same with humans, their heart isn't big enough for their body and it gives out. Sometimes there is a preexisting condition, but that usually happens during a workout, i.e. a heart attack. The Arkansas TE had a preexisting condition.

EXACTLY my point. Guys like Wally Pontiff dying are HUGE tragedies, these football players are dying every year, hell every 6 months

Lots of athletes have oversized hearts. I think excelling in pro sports has come to a point it's become dangerous just getting there, particularly with the "supplements" that changed the game.

These end up one of two ways. Either he had an enlarged heart or he was on prescription pills

Football players are generally large men. Larger people have a shorter life expectancy than small people and often have more underlying problems like an enlarged heart than smaller people.

The extremely scary part of this is that A LOT of normal people have enlarged hearts and don't realize it most of their lifes until they have a sudden cardiac episode that may or may not kill them. It happens all the time with seemingly healthy people with no warning signs.
