I don't like them, don't know any of their songs, not sure if I have even heard their music. I just see that it is a common agreement that EVERYONE hates Nickleback. What is the reason though? Bad vocals? Bad instrument play? Bad lyrics?
I'm looking for a little more than 'because they suck'. Why do they suck?

I don't think I hate Nickelback as much as I would hate hanging out with people who like Nickelback. I know they exist, but I don't know any, thank God.

They are popular and make gajillions of dollars for the soul fact that they figured white Americans out. Their music contains a simple, easy to digest, 4/4 time signature, and lyrics that contain zero words that a fourth grader can't define. Then they take four songs and rewrite them ad nauseum, and they brand this as HARD American rock and roll (despite being Canadian). Couple all of this with the FACT that the average American is an idiot (MOST tigerdroppings posters excluded), and you find great success.
Being that they found a way to capatalize HEAVILY off of mediocrity, they are the smartest band since the Beatles.

I never understood the over the top hate for them. I don't know much of their work, but everything I hear sounds like typically pop rock. There is much worst pop music out there than nickleback, imo.
I guess if people want to classify them as just rock and compare them to ac/dc or metalica, then yeah, they suck. But they are just a pop band, right?
I'd rather listen to nickleback than Gaga or minaj or beiber etc
