MarineKingPrime just beat MC 2-0 in the first game. He's totally dominating right now in his bracket.

Been watching a few matches and I have a question, if the announcers are so all knowing like they say then why aren't they playing to win the money?

Day9 is the only announcer there that could compete with the pros. He probably doesn't compete because he can make a lot more money announcing. It's incredibly hard to finish in the money at one of these tournaments. Stephano is one of the very best players in the world and is already in the losers bracket.

Because knowing is different from execution and most caster are former players who tried to become pro at one time or another.

If you have a chance go watch MKP vs SaSe game 2. I don't know how MKP didn't lose.

That game was insane, I couldn't believe MKP held it off and eventually won the game. I don't know if you have to be a member or not but the last game of the night was Polt Vs. Stephano (TvZ) from the open bracket and it was a great series.

Yea caught those two series last night, glad I got to see them cause I didn't buy the subscription. I think MLG releases the VODs after the tourney is over.

No, he couldn't, at least not with the Koreans.
Rotterdam is actually the best player wise of the commentators, and he also wouldn't have a chance.

On a side note, I'm actually in S. Korea right now, so GSL is finally at the right time. OFC, while I'm here there is a MLG back home that is at a horrible time for me to watch.

Day9 could definitely compete if he played full time. He already has an account for all 3 races in GM while playing on the side, and has more knowledge than 95% of current pro players. What makes you think he couldn't?

There is a huge difference between GM and pro.
He might be able to compete, but I doubt he would be higher than a middle of the pack foreigner.

There are 5 foreigners who can win tournaments with koreans in them: Stephano, Huk, Idra, Naniwa, and Sen. Day9 wouldn't be the 6th foreigner.

Also, he doesn't have more knowledge than pro players, no one has more knowledge than pro players who are having to keep up with the metagame.
He is however, my favorite caster and one of the most knowledgeable casters when it comes to SC2.

Don't get me wrong, he could slaughter my shitty diamond play, but there is a difference between GM and pro.

Agreed, people don't realize the huge difference between GM and pro.

I never said he would be the best foreigner, or near it, but he'd be able to compete. Also, I never said a GM is on the same level as a Pro, but you have to be pretty stinking good to have an account for all 3 races in GM without even being a dedicated player. And yes, he does have more knowledge than most pros...you're just being ignorant if you don't believe it.

I believe Day[9] was GM at some point and time but not currently right now, I don't think he could play against the current pros now. Just check out the open bracket at MLG LINK and look who came out on top of those brackets, Pros who didn't get seeded into the Pools.

You are confusing "best pro" with "pro". I never said Day9 would be the best pro.

Knowledge about what? build orders? matchup specific counter builds? unit composition? different players styles and how to play to their weaknesses?
because pros know more about that than he does, he's just great at expressing what he knows, which is a lot.

All of the above. I can play this game at a fairly high level, and from what I can tell, Day9's analysis is always accurate. When he was criticizing Idra's play vs JYP, he was right. He understands what makes DRG's playstyle work, and Idra was doing it wrong.
