It was the 1980s precursor of alt.county. New wave crossed with the countryish sensibilities of people like Gram Parsons and Doug Sahm. As the name cowpunk implies it had a harder sound than the country-rock of its predecessors.

These two I really enjoyed.

Beat Farmers were a little too country for me (vocal wise).
