Are the new additions enough to pull it off? Altough they are sitting in fifth in the Western Conference right now, they are only 7 points out of first. I think they are 7-6-2 this season against the four teams ahead of them so it seems like a run to the conference finals is very likely.

Too tough to tell this year. The Western Conference is ridiculously balanced this year and wouldn't be surprised if Vancouver, Detroit, St. Louis, or Nashville won this year. And I definitely wouldn't be surprised if one of the lower teams went far or won it either. The Pacific and Atlantic divisions are incredibly balanced and deep. A lot of parity in the NHL this year.

They are 1 game above .500 excluding 2 shootout losses and that makes them likely to make it the conference finals?

Come playoff time, Detroit and Vancity are just too good to knock off. One will lose (obviously), but both? I like the Preds blueline, but they lack a reliable top tie scorer for the playoffs. I love their balance though. They'll be a tough out, but so will Dallas and St. Louis.

The East, OTOH, is wiiiiiiiiide open. I'd pick the Preds to win the East, can they switch conferences?

Does Radulov fit the bill?

Radulov

Such a drama queen. He can be 10x better then Malkin but acts like Terrell Owens when things don't go his way.

Rinne has the ability to carry them far in the playoffs

No. He's a good goal scorer but I think he's more Semin than Malkin. Hell, even Semin is a reach.
