What's the story behind the #18 jersey? Is it tradition or just a fad!!

Someone morons have to keep bringing up. Expect about 200 threads about it in the off season. Its a meaningless thing that fans like to blow up for no apparent reason.

Because they thing it's about them. You get some that think it's stupid, and other that think there's some formula for determining who gets it.
As long as it's relevant to the team, then they'll continue doing it. I don't know if it will continue past Miles' tenure or not.

Mauck wore it and he was pretty good and then he "passed" it to Hester who was pretty good then it went to some players who weren't good until Brandon Taylor wore it.

I like it personally.
It started with Matt Mauck. He wore #18 and we won a NC.
Then I believe it went to Jacob Hester and he wore it until he graduated. Also won a NC with him.
Then Richard Dickson wore it his junior and senior years.
Richard Murphy took it after Dickson left and then Brandon Taylor wore it after Murphy.
Depending on who you hear it from, only a senior can wear it, but Richard Dickson disagrees.
It's mainly for the leader of the team. On and off the field. It can be someone on offense or defense.

I think it took a backseat to #7 when it was passed from Peterson to Mathieu.

Some of you just don't get it. The 18 tradition isn't for the fans its a internal thing for the team. Look for it to announced sometime between now and fall camp who will wear it.

I'm cool with things like this, the 7 swag number is cooler because it went under the radar a little until PP passed it on to TM, but 18 with hester was just badass
