Anyone here seen The Artist?

I saw it tonight. Wasn't sure what to expect, after hearing it was indeed a silent movie, but my curiosity had been piqued by all the Oscar buzz.
I have to say that it really was fantastic. It probably will win Best Picture and Best Director...all with almost no dialog and very little sound (other than the score)...quite a feat.

I saw it too, thought it was fantastic. I wouldn't be surprised if it won the Oscar, although I haven't seen The Descendants or War Horse either.

Agreed.
I am rooting for either this or Hugo to win.
Both are extremely deserving. Original films that convey the true magic of motion pictures.
Basically what The Academy Awards should be all about.
Really hoping they get it right and pick one of those two.

I've seen all of the best picture nominees except for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, War Horse, and The Help.
I agree that it's a fantastic film. Dujardin was great.
The danger with a film like this is that it can easily fall into the trap of feeling gimmicky or contrived because it has the unique element of being a silent film (I think Avatar and 3D is a good example). It absolutely does not. In a weak year for film, and especially because I wasn't crazy about the Descendants, it will deserve all of the awards it receives.
It really is a celebration of what makes movies great, and I suggest it for anyone who has a love for film.

I've seen them all except for Hugo and The Descendants. The Help was my favorite before last night, and I think Octavia Spencer in The Help was amazingly good, but The Artist is a technical and performance marvel.

I thought it was really well done. Plus the girl who plays Peppy Miller is really good looking so that didn't hurt.
