All of this arguing over Lin's turnovers made me spend about 10 minutes with box scores and a calculator. Here are the Knicks team stats for assists, turnovers, and field goal percentage BL and AL:

Before Lin (23 games)
APG - 18.91
TPG - 16.96
FGM/FGA - 787-1853, 42.47%

After Lin (9 games)
APG - 19.44
TPG - 16.22
FGM/FGA - 325-716, 45.39%

As you can see, despite all of the criticism about Lin's turnovers, there has been a slight improvement in team assists and turnovers since Lin started playing. I honestly expected a bigger improvement in team assists, but I didn't expect a decrease in team turnovers.

The most significant improvement for the Knicks is field goal percentage. Before Lin, the Knicks FGP of 42.47% placed them at 28th in the league. However, since Lin started distributing the ball, their FGP of 45.39% would place them 9th.

It will be interesting to see if this trend continues.

Well if their FG% is better, then that will have secondary effects on the assists.

A better comparison would be per possession, rather than per game for assists and TO.

I would be interested to see that after Melo plays a dozen games.

Yah Melo is shooting 39% this year and has missed all the games Lin has started so he alone probably affects the fg%
