I saw that the draft is set for June 28. When does the free agency period start? I'm just curious as to if we will know if Gordon is staying or not before the draft.

The Draft is before FA in the NBA.

The only reason he wouldn't be staying is if he was prepared to force his way out and I'd think Demps would have a good idea of that by the draft. Just like the Hornets lost nothing by not extending Gordon, Gordon lost nothing by not extending. That changes once Free Agency start.

If Gordon doesn't resign he immediately loses $7 - $9 million dollars by playing for a year at his $5 million tender offer instead of the $12 - $14.5 million deal he'd likely get from the Hornets or an offer sheet. On top of that he'd be taking the risk that no serious injury would happen during an entire year to prevent him from getting the same contract just from a different team as a UFA. He'd have to really not want to play for the Hornets to turn down that much money and risk injury for an entire year just to play somewhere else.

Free agency starts July 1st. We will have our shiny new young guys before FA hits.

With Gordon's injury history, I don't see him turning down an offer sheet this off-season unless he's completely low-balled.
