...to listen to during the game? I was there so didn't hear him.

I'm guessing he was just a tad cranky?

Nah. His calls have character. I'll take him over the average homer robot. Love his TD calls.

Doug made the call tolerable...Sort of like, "WTF are they doing out there?" and like watching Battlefield Earth, "At some point they're going to do something different and this will work."

He was surprisingly not very upset at all.

Seriously though, who is the best option we have to replace Hawthorne? I think he is terrible like a lot of others, but I think LSU is sticking with him because he has been here so long and has been coined the "voice."

Could it be Jordy Hultberg? WHo else you got?

Hawthorne is a terrible radio play by play announcer. Trying to follow the game on the radio is very frustrating with Hawthorne, and then when you get a chance to watch the game whilelistening to him, you begin to really understand how aweful he really is. If all it took to be an announcer was passion for the Tigers, we could all do it.

I like Hawthorne, he's heads and shoulders over other SEC radio guys believe it or not. Take a drive through Mississippi on a fall afternoon listening to the radio and you'll agree. He takes his deserved bashings during football season, but I love hearing him calling baseball games. To each is own I guess

The Ole Miss play-by-play guy actually sounds like he's doing his best Hawthorne impression.

WTF? Baseball is probably the sport he is the most awful at.

Jefferson takes the snap hands off to hilliard, who goes crashing through the line, no wait it's Reuben Randall for a spectacular catch, for a loss of 5.

Hawthorne could be the most pessimistic play by play announcer I have ever heard.

I totally disagree. Hawthorne may get some calls wrong in baseball, but he is MUCH MUCH better than any other LSU PBP guy at filling the dead time between pitches and he has MUCH more emotion in his voice than Hanagriff or the other guy (names slips my mind currently).

In fact, I have no idea why all the hate for Hawthorne over the last 5yrs or so. Is the a TD thing? A younger generation thing? I'm only in my early 30's....is this a view point of the 20 somethings? Listen to the Ole Miss PBP guy, he isn't any better.

I've been kinda tired of Hawthorne since about 1989. Back then he was just cranky and pessimistic, but more often than not could at least tell you the down and distance.

I'm 42 and I don't think he is very good at his job. I think he has gotten lazy and his vision is not very good.

You guys need to get a life. Have you ever done play by play? Try it, not that easy. And this is
not Jim Hawthorne.
