What's the Rush in Signing a QB This Year?

Don't get me wrong, if there are still some elite prospects available and we're able to snag one, great! If not, I don't see the need to take a lower tier QB for depth purposes. If Randall and Rivers don't pan out as backups, we can always go the JUCO route like we did with Mettenberger.

I don't like the recent string of events, but let's keep in mind, we're still LSU and an elite program.

You need to sign one a year roughly so you don't have gaps in development. It's tough to sign multiple talented qbs in a given year.

This.. Andrew Hatch was a nice kid but do we really want to be put in that situation again?

There won't always be a mettenberger available in juco.

remember when we threw JJ & JL into the fire a few years ago.

We don't want that lack of depth to happen again

I think you would like to have a quality QB in every class. We have enough depth to get through the year without taking one that we really want.

I personally don't like the idea of a 270 lbs QB, but hey maybe he could have made a difference against Bama's D? I'd prefer a pocket passer and for Les to let Krags run the show, but i'm sure that's wishful thinking.

Granted, it is difficult to sign multiple QBs in a year, but I would think we'd look pretty appealing to recruits next year, if we don't take any this year.

As far as having talent gaps, let's say we don't sign one this year and sign one next year.

In 2013, we have:
Mettenberger (Sr)
Rivers (So)
Randall (So)

then either 1 or 2 QBs as true Freshman or a JUCO kid and 1 Freshman

I just don't think we need to panic. If it's too late to get someone elite, why take them?

There are some rumors that Randall may not stay at QB. Who knows truly how Rivers is progressing (we just don't know enough about him behind closed door practices). If Mettenberger got hurt, that doesn't leave much depth.

As others have mentioned, always nice to bring at least one in a year. Some will pan out, some won't. Give them a redshirt and allow them time to develop. The last thing we want is to throw a true freshman into the mix (look at Florida this year and their issues with depth and true freshmen).

Don't think many are disagreeing with this. But even elite programs don't land everyone they would love to have. And then when you land them you don't know what exactly will happen. It's a crap shoot sometime and you just need to have QB's in place. So...try to land a potentially quality QB in each recruiting class. JMO

But does a guy like liggins really fill the depth? If he's not a guy that is top flite level, why take the risk? LSU got a bad break with kiel, but I don't think the answer is to take a guy that has bust written all over him. I may be wrong but this kid is an overreaction to an emergency.

Have never heard this from anyone other than 3rd graders on the rant that see a fast black guy and think he should be moved to WR.

Are you completely making this up?

He absolutely should stay at QB and I know if he does he'll be a good one.

I heard they might move him when Kiel was coming in, but now there is no need. I also don't think we should sign Liggins or frankly anyone this year. We have enough in development with our current 4 QB's.

Does this mean we'll be stuck running the short side option because he's fat?

I hope they bring in a pocket passer. We have running backs, let the QB do his job, throw the damn ball.

I totally agree. Find a guy who can distribute the ball to all of the athletes we have. This is one reason I'm so excited about Mett.

It's been a bad stretch, but there's no need to panic. Just wait until the season starts and we're dominating teams again.

Assuming Mett goes pro, you have two raw project qbs dueling to start. Rivers needed A TON of work apparently, and Randle is athletic and has a big arm, but is he developed?

We won't know til we see it. Looks what happened when Lee was thrust into action and wasn't ready.

I think that Met will be used as a game manager. I really hope that i'm wrong. If he is allowed to go vertical, which he should be, we will be in Miami again.
