So why is it that we have been able to find all kinds of gems for our offense, but defensively we have drafted 3 first round defensive players recently. And despite that, it seems as though none of those guys pan out to be really productive.

Just wondering why we do a better job evaluating offensive talent and not defense?

I see what you mean here. Saints do a great job finding lineman in the draft, and running backs and receivers as undrafted free agents, but, we can't seem to find a decent linebacker or some death at D line.

Should we blame this on having a offensive minded head coach?

hate to beat a dead horse cause everyone says it...but I guess i reiterate...GREGG WILLIAMS! We have plenty talented defensive players but its hard to shine when your always out of place cause your coach calls moronic blitz after moronic blitz! The big plays we give up are always the same...we blitz most of the defense and leave a HUGE hole in the middle and its up to our talented DB's to run the guy down 40 yards later...which is no small feat seeing how they are at this point being blocked by a WR they were one on one with....sorry had to get the frustration out!!!! but yes I'm gonna go with Gregg Williams final answer

I'm not sure the structure of the organization, but it seems to me that the scouts are the ones that bring Colston, Moore, PT, all these unheralded guys in front of Sean P to evaluate. Is it that the scouts are not as astute on defensive players or was G Williams and S Payton just not as good evaluators of talent on defense?

With all that said, I do believe a more sound defensive system could benefit everyone. Especially considering that we blitz our asses off without lock down cornerbacks.
