When referring to British tv shows I generally use the British term, "series", to mean seasons of shows. Even if comparing British and American versions of the same show I'll use series and season in the same sentence.

Am I alone with this little peccadillo? Should I give it up on the boards to reduce any potential confusion? Should we have a MTV board rule on this?

Really? I guess I don't watch enough BBCA to have noticed. I thought this thread was going to be about British shows vs. the usually inferior American Spinoffs.

Yeah, BBCA probably uses "seasons" since its technically an American network, but for instance if you look up information on a British show or possibly the DVD's you'll find The Office Series 1, or Series 2, etc.

It reflects a different attitude towards television. American shows tend to run as long as possible. British shows tend to run for one or two years and then have a definite endpoint. Think of the difference between the two Office's.

yep British shows usually concentrate on one or two main story arcs to carry about 12-16 30 min episodes and bring it to a nice close.

American shows hang on for dear life until people stop watching them or the cast gets tired of doing it

Oh, I wasn't debating the merits of the creative and business differences between the two, I was just asking if anyone else was a Nazi about using the culture specific vocabulary...
