I wasn't sure where to post this, so I figured I'd post it here since I know a lot of you have dogs.

I got my puppy about 3-4 weeks ago. He is 8-9 weeks old. He is 90% chocolate lab, but he has a little Chesapeake Bay Retriever in him. Anyway, I noticed he had a couple of drops of blood in his stool yesterday morning and around lunch. I was bringing him to the vet anyway for his second set of shots yesterday, so I mentioned the blood. He asked me a few questions, checked for parasites in his stool, and said he's fine. It was probably just something he ate, so he gave me something in a tube (sort of looks like yogurt, don't remember the name), to give to him to help his stomach.

Well, someone mentions parvo to me today and how bloody stool can be a symptom. I don't think the vet checked for parvo, but he did ask me about loss of appetite and depression, etc. My puppy is still eating, playful, and he didn't have blood in any stool this morning or a couple of hours ago around lunch time. Now he sounds fine, but I'm a bit of a worrier, so does he sound fine to you guys? I mean, I did bring him to the vet and he didn't mention parvo at all. He just told me if the blood hasn't stopped by Wednesday or Thursday to let him know.

I had a golden retriever that was around 10 weeks old and he was running and playing one afternoon and eating everything we put in front of him. We put him up for the night and I go to check on him about 2 am and he is laid out on his side and would not move. Called up my local vet and met him at his office and come to find out he had parvo. Vet treated him over the next week or so and he is 8 years old today!

I thought checking for parvo was pretty routine as part of the initial exam amd shots.

Parvo is more uncommon in older puppies. However it's REAL bad stuff, we have lost one to parvo, from what I have seen it's can't be confused with anything else and I am not so sure any vet could miss it.

The feces has a smell to it (different than normal) and it hits the dog hard I don't think it would be parvo.

Watch the stool and also look for rice in the stool if you see rice looking stuff it's worms and thats causing the bleeding.

Honestly everything is normal. He didn't even have those little drops of blood in his feces today. The vet checked a stool sample yesterday, and he said other than it being a little loose it looked fine. Said he probably just got into something and his stomach didn't agree with it. But other than blood in his stool, he has no other parvo symptoms at the moment, so does anyone think he could actually have this?

Really doubtful. Just keep an eye out for any additional symptoms.

I have 4 dogs and all of them would have some drops of blood in their stool when they got sick as puppies. Hell, it happened to my 4 year old beagle a couple of weeks ago. It's completely normal, and should clear up pretty soon. If not, the vet will likely give him some antibiotics.

Get the test. Just in case. Besides if he does have parvo and passes away you will have to bleach everything he touched. It would be good to know. Incase you get another dog. What a pain! Parvo strain will live for so long in the right enviorment.

But if caught in time it sure is treatable.

Keep an eye on him. As long as he's eating & playing he's O.K.

I lost a pup to parvo a few weeks ago. There was no question she had it. She wouldn't eat or drink, had bad bloody diarrhea, and she was very weak. It caught up to her quickly. Parvo is horrible shite and if your pup is throwing solid turds and still eating/drinking normally I wouldn't worry too much.

Bloody stool is a symptom as is loss of appetite and lethargy. If he's eating then he's ok. If he stops eating get him to the vet asap. Is he current on his shots?

My parents just had a puppy with Parvo..
After spending the $165 the vet told them he had about a 10% chance of making it being he was so young and so sick.

He stood all night swaying like death was near.
2 days later he's chewing up everything and shitting everywhere.
Never give up hope unless you can't afford the vet bill.

He has one more set of his puppy shots in a few weeks.

Anyway, when I got home today he seemed normal, running around the yard with our other dog and eating. Stool hasn't had blood since yesterday.

He seems.fine, but I'll keep an eye on him in case he develops more symptoms. Thanks for the help everyone.

I'm sure he checked for parvo in one way or another.

Parvo has a pretty distinct smell...and when it hits, it hits very quickly.

Since your pup is eating and playful, I wouldn't worry about parvo. He would not be doing that if it was parvo.
