How has ESPN not managed to get the Cotton Bowl? I think the Cotton and the Sun Bowl are the only bowl games not on an ESPN/ABC network.

shite, they can't have everything .. that is why this whole bowl season is so freaking stretched out .. everything except the national championship game should be finished by january 1st ... i hate the fact that you still have a little bullshite bowl played between new years day and the BCSNCG ... now, i will say this for Fox .. they have not promoted the cotton bowl this year 1/10th as hard as they did last year ... that tells me that something is probably going to happen with that game TV wise soon ..

Agreed. I wish CBS, NBC and Fox could get the rights to some of these bowl games. I also hate how drawn out the season has become. And the shitty bowl in Mobile should DEFINITELY be played before New Year's Day. Of course, it helps that ESPN has an ownership interest in a LOT of these bowls.

I agree, get them out of the way, play the BCS games on the 1st and 2nd then take 3 days off and have the NC

Without a doubt. I would imagine when the current BCS format expires after 2013 (I think) that the Cotton Bowl would have to become a BCS bowl. It is on par or above the Orange and Fiesta Bowls for sure. With the new stadium, the Dallas market, and the payouts it should definitely be a "major" bowl. I think Jerry saw the opening last year when the Fiesta was threatened with losing BCS status. Sadly, as long as ESPN has the BCS contracts, they will barely even mention this game and probably have a 2 minute highlight once the game is over. Then its back to USC and Tebow coverage.

that's the way i see it .. you have to make the BCS games special and the BCSNCG even more special .. the BCS games deserve the sole spotlight and then the championship game deserves three or four days of spotlight .. play the rose bowl and the orange bowl on new years day .. let the sugar bowl be the sole prime time game on new year's eve .. and then the fiesta by itself in prime time on january 2nd .. no games for three days and then the NC on the 6th or so ... but everything else has to be out of the way (minus the capital one, outback, and cotton) by 4Pm'ish on the 31st ...

The beauty of the Fiesta was when everyone had these rigid tie-ins and you had ND, Miami, PSU, and FSU as indies.

I wish NBC sports could snag a few bowls and hire Ron Franklin to call every one of them.

He and Brad Nesslar can make an FCS season opener entertaining

NBC is going to be great for sports in general .. it is going to keep ESPN -- who really has turned into a modern-day AT&T with sports rights -- honest ... they are also going to make ESPN spend more money too .. NBC has greater financial resources overall than ABC/ESPN does .. NBC will dip their toe at first and then explode .. couple that with the NFL network doing more regular season games in the next contract along with turner wanting to get involved and ESPN's ego is going to get deflated a bit ..

This has ruined the bowl season for me. I think the Orange Bowl would have gotten better ratings if they put it up against The Fiesta on Mon night. PEOPLE are BOWLED OUT. The Cotton bowl will have a terrible rating. To be honest the NC game should be tonight at the latest. I know its a big game but waiting until the 9th will hurt ratings.

Agreed. I hate to say it but my own enthusiasm has waned severely for the lsu game due to nearly seven weeks off. Feels too detached from the season

yep, I don't think I'll even watch this one. They should have sugar, rose, orange, fiesta, cotton on the same day (like in the past) and then play the NC the next night.

too much waiting around for the only meaningful game.
