I really liked it, but had they been able to spend a little more of special effects, I think it would have been better. Some parts appeared a bit too cartoonish

I had to search for this. I've been using gifs from it for a while now, but never really discussed it. The movie was fantastic. I hate to hear that the Harry Potter guy is trying to make an American blockbuster out of it. The campy nature of it made it so much better.
