Do any of yall know how he has done in practice this year? It seems that he has been passed up by Ronald Martin on the depth chart.

I think it's ok if he develops slowly and eventually becomes a good player in the end, as long as he develops. He could go the Chris Hawkins route and develop towards the end of this career. Hawkins is in the NFL now.

If he gets significant playing time outside of special teams, it'll be a surprise. I haven't seen any effort by the coaches to get him to the field. I haven't heard any rumors about him being a top competitor in practice. On the other hand, Reid, Loston, and Martin have seen time at S.

There's also the possibility that a young corner emerges to justify Mathieu moving to S. Another possibility is that Landon Collins comes in as a true frosh and lives up to the hype.

Lots of scenarios seem more likely at this point than Sam Gibson earning PT.

Have people really been talking about moving Mathieu to safety? He has been talked about by McShay and Kiper as being a 1st rounder at CB after next year. It would seem silly for him to move to safety since they don't get drafted as high in the NFL. Plus, he would be a very undersized safety.

Considering Miles burned a redshirt on Ronald Martin against Ole Miss tells me he's probably ahead of Gibson

someone was on here a few wks back saying the coaches were possibly moving Gibson to CB. I was surprised to hear that and wondered if they were talking about the wrong guy, but never got a response.

Depends on how hard he works for a spot. Bennie Logan blew up this year, probably because he worked for it.

I think he should move to linebacker, but it's not easier and in some ways it's harder because you have to react quicker

Justin Vincent was on the radio pregame before the SEC Championship game. He back at LSU working in promotions or some such and apparently he sees a lot of practice. He was asked the question who is the one young guy that LSU fans don't really know about who is going to wind up being a star. The only guy JV mentioned was Sam Gibson. Said he is going to be a beast corner next year. I guess he's moved. But yeah, because he hasn't played yet as a redshift freshman on the best defense in the nation means he's destined to be a career special teamed at best. God bless the fricking rant.

Well we've had a lot of young guys play and a number of games have been blowouts so if he's that good and he has already redshifted why hasn't he played?

That's really good to hear. I was hoping him and Vinson would be able to step up next year. Sam is a really smart player. He also has size and speed that could help add depth to the secondary next year.

Do you know if both him and Vinson moved to CB? Either way I bet they both know the playbook for which ever secondary slot they're put in

We haven't played a ton of corners, though, Clark. After Mo, TM7, and Simon, really the only guys who've played are SRs getting garbage time, right? Maybe it's that he's learning a new position and needs mor time. Hell, Logan didn't play much as a RSF and wound up starting. Who knows. Or maybe JV was fricked up and eyeing some white womenz and didn't know WTF he was talking about.

Since when is Gibson a corner? At LSU the best players are playing and they're playing early. We'll have to see if Gibson can get into the rotation next year before writing him off, but there is not a whole lot going for him right now.

The other coaches and him all have a great eye for spotting talent.

The majority of players they recruit could all play multiple positions. They love versatility in players.

Yeah I remember that. Same thing with Williford and that worked out pretty good

Gibson looked good in the spring game at safety. Didn't he intercept a pass?
