Good article in The Advocate this morning

quote:

Defensive end Barkevious Mingo remembers watching spring practice when he first arrived at LSU as a recruit from West Monroe nearly three years ago.

His eyes got wide as he watched first-year defensive coordinator John Chavis run over to a player who was heading to the sideline businesslike after making a good play.

“The guy was walking to the sideline, and I see (Chavis) just take off,” Mingo said with a smile after practice Saturday. “He pushed him back and said go celebrate with your teammates. I was like, ‘Wow, I want to play for a guy like that.’”

chief is awesome like the chief from inspector gadget would have been if gadget didn't always throw the self destructing message into his hiding place.

I remember seeing players do some huddle around thing after a play while they clap their hands and stomp feet and stuff

I'm pretty sure Chavis' philosophy is rush the pass with speed, and stop the run with numbers. Not the other way around.

I love seeing the players lively and picking each other up after positive defensive plays, but I know some on here think that it is thuggish.

Reminds me of the Football Life show on Bill Bellicheck. He is watching film and says that you can see the intensity is not there when a defender makes a good play and none of his teammates are rushing over to celebrate with them.
