My GDLT has a 20hp Vanguard and idles too fast. I tried to adjust it myself but can't get it. Anybody know of a mechanic or repair shop in the French Settlement/Prairieville area? I thought about calling lawn mower repair shops but I'd like to get the whole thing checked out by somebody more familiar with them than I am.

I know ProPower on Airline does work on them. Not really in your area but a short drive.

How are the gaskets looking on the carburetor? A lot of times an air leak (bad seal) with an old gasket will cause it to idle fast. This is just general small engine knowledge, I know nothing specifically about the Vanguard 20hp.

No, I didn't know there was a guy over there. That's about 5 minutes from my house. FS side or Maurepas side of the bridge?

Even if I'm not the original owner and it's not the factory engine on the frame? I've heard they're picky about some things but never really dealt with them.

FS side, if you drive over the draw bridge you will see it on your right, metal building with a ton of boats out front. To get to the bulding turn at the Mecca sign. I don't know if he does go devil work, but I have good things about his work and worth the time to check...

They are assholes to deal with. I got on there web site looking for a new prop for mine. Found the one I wanted called them to make sure they have it and so I drive 60 miles to pick it up. I brought my old one along. When I get there, first thing they ask is I need my SNN numbers off my Godevil. WTF? Why didn't they tell me this before I went there?

frick THEM! I was able to buy a new prop from Mud Buddys that was $25 cheaper and works great. Like I said, frick THEM. Hell, I have a few emails with them about how pissed I was and they just blew me off like they didn't care of the fricking they did me. frick THEM AGAIN!

I spent some time on MMT and this is the common consensus. If it ain't GD they don't want to have anything to do with it. That being said, I'm desperate to get my longtail in the water and shoot some ducks so I'm taking it to them in the morning.

I went and talked to the dude you told me about. Super nice guy and sounds like he knows his stuff. Next time I'm not in such a rush I'm going to go to him.

Are you talking about Byron "Bigoot" Harris? If so, he's THE BEST boat mechanic in the area. Honest and fast also. My family has dealt with him for years.

Yea, I live just outside of FS.

No, not Bryan Harris. I do know of him through some friends. I hear he's good. I really needed somebody to check my shaft, prop, and seals and figured most outboard mechanics wouldn't want to fool with that or have the parts on hand.
