It doesn't seem like the SEC produces as much qb talent as other conferences (pac12,big10,big12). There are obviously exceptions (Cam and the Mannings to name a few). Why is this? Does it make the defenses look better on a week to week basis?

Ive heard this complain from northerners and west coasters. I think it's total bullshite in my opinion because when these great QBs have faced SEC defenses they've lost anyways.

It's all about perception, really.

Non-SEC fans look at our QB's and see weak QB play.

SEC fans look at our QB's and realize the types of defenses they are playing against.

Tebow, Cam, Peyton, and Eli were pretty good....

Were I a great QB prospect, I wouldn't want to play in the SEC. CFB caliber o-lines vs. NFL caliber Ds.

No thanks.

Well, let's not forget Matt Stafford and Jason Campbell were atrocious SEC quarterbacks until their last year. Maybe it has something to do with defensive talent?

I think you have a point with the recruiting aspect. I don't think it's the "SEC defenses make QB's look bad when they're really not". If that were the case, it wouldn't hold them back from NFL success.

I'd be willing to bet that the SEC has more starting QBs than anyone else.

Matthew Stafford
Eli Manning
Cam Newton
Tim Tebow
Rex Grossman
Peyton Manning (starter before injury)
Jason Campbell (starter befor injury)

So seven teams out of 32 total teams were rocking with SEC QBs. Now just five due to injury. I wouldn't say that is a bad percentage.

If this is the case, why don't SEC qb's succeed more often in the NFL?

In August I posted on this board that the SEC had an unusual number of QB turnover. Other years we were more QB rich. It's a cycle.

Add Jay Cutler. Unless Vandy doesn't count.

It usually does, but this season I'd say the SEC Qb's suck.

I have a theory on it. It seems other conferences can produce o-linemen, qbs, and kickers at an even, if not better rate than the SEC. A large part of NFL O-linemen, qbs, and kickers are white. I think it's more of a race/demographics thing than anything else. Wait for it......

That's Racist!!!

So 6 Pac-12 and 5 SEC. Just by a quick glance, I don't think any other conferences are close to those numbers.
ETA: I think the ACC has 5 too

ACC is close. Vick and Schaub should be added to their count.
