1992 is before BCS.

Tennessee won the first BCS championship following the 1998 season.

Woodson's final collegiate season was 1997.

I know he's wasn't a defensive player, but didn't Orlando Pace get invited to the Heisman ceremony? Amazing for an Offensive Tackle.

Woodson was the year before the BCS era--remember Michigan and Nebraska split the title that year which led to the formation of the BCS.

So Mathieu is one of two defensive players to be invited to the ceremony in the BCS era.
