THIS game is more important to this team than everyone else realizes

In today's college football world, THIS is the benchmark for success
THIS is what every team in America wishes they could compete for, but only a handful are both good enough and privileged enough.
At the beginning of the season there are a number of goals and THIS is the most important because THIS takes teams where they want to go: into history and onto the pedestal of ultimate achievement.
If LSU caps off a truly remarkable season with the same perseverance and incredible focus that they've maintained all season, THIS will lead to the glory and greatness that will stand the test of time, and THIS will be a banner raised to stay for the rest of time.
And maybe most importantly THIS will be the only proof we need to call ourselves Champions, the best team, the undeniably most deserving team in the nation.
THIS is the SEC championship

I happen to agree. I take HUGE pride in the SEC Championship. You can't control who you play in the title, and you only play em once (supposedly). Your conference you play every year.

SEC Championship (4th since '01)
A chance for an undefeated season (first since 1958)

Guaranteed spot in the BCSCG (a loss makes it highly likely but not guaranteed)
Not to mention, continuing a winning streak that could last all the way through next season. We all know what we have coming back next year.

A shot at Georgia (the only SEC team to have a winning record vs. CLM)
Guaranteed spot in the BCSCG (a loss makes it highly likely but not guaranteed)

I have noticed that this team does not get too far ahead of themselves judging by what they are quoted as saying in the paper.
1. Before the Arkansas game they were talking about how important is was to have an undefeated season and I believe they wanted that badly.
2. Right now they are saying it is real important to win an SEC Championship.
3. After the SEC Championship game they won't need a sports psychologist or Knute Rockne to help them get ready for the NC game.

I'm with the OP. I remember being more proud of the 2007 team after the SECCG than after the BCSNCG. This weekend is the culmination of the entire season. The crystal is awesome, but the most important trophy right now is the wooden one up for grabs Saturday.

An SEC Championship should, by no means, ever be looked upon as a small accomplishment or anything to scoff at.
But to me this right here is HUGE.
