Someone from TulaneLSU posted a very similar scenario in another thread. But this too is a great read. The Gumps will go ballistic if they finish third.

just more evidence the anti-rematch train is gaining momentum. Look for that to continue throughout the week.

Found it on an Okie St. board. They're mounting a campaign right now emailing everyone they can (Harris voters, media oulets, etc.) trying to show everyone their body of work compared to Bama's.

While it's assumed Michigan punched its ticket to a BCS game by beating Ohio State, the Wolverines still need one thing to happen: They need LSU to beat Georgia. If the Dawgs win, they'll automatically qualify for the Sugar Bowl as SEC champions, thus reclaiming the spot the Wolverines would be filling.
That seals it. No way Les will allow the team to lose to UGA now, not when it helps both his current team and his alma mater.

Great Article.

With the "eye test", I don't think anyone can honestly say that Alabama isn't one of the 2 best teams in the country. However, it's clear that OSU has a better resume as far as beating ranked opponents.

Bama's only argument is that their loss is "better" than OSU's loss. There is no disputing that. BUT is using that same logic, Mich should have gone in before Fla. in 2006

But the story of how Alabama came to be near-universally viewed as LSU's lone viable opponent runs deeper, and it's been five years in the making.

By handing voters the nearly impossible yearly task of deciding on just two championship-caliber teams, the BCS has positioned itself to become a self-fulfilling popularity contest. Five years in a row the SEC champion has been tabbed as one of the participants, and five years in a row that team has validated its selection by winning the big game.

It's not surprising, therefore, that when surveying a field of flawed contenders outside of LSU, those same voters perceive a one-loss SEC team as the next-best thing. The 9-6 score in the teams' first meeting may be voters' stated reason, but in reality the perception is based on past seasons as much as this one.

We've seen defensively dominant SEC teams shut down high-scoring Big 12 teams (LSU over Oklahoma in 2003, Florida over Oklahoma in '08, Alabama over Texas in '09). We know how that turns out. That history makes people leery of an Oklahoma Sate team -- currently next in line in the BCS standings -- that fits much the same mold.

In a similar vein, we've seen both LSU (in '07) and Alabama (in '09) steamroll BCS No. 5 Virginia Tech. We haven't seen No. 4 Stanford face an SEC foe, but we did see speedy Oregon whiz by the Cardinal -- and LSU squashed those Ducks in the season opener. And if you're going to give Alabama flack for failing to win its conference, what of Boise State failing to win the Mountain West?

Interesting. So he's basically saying that because the SEC has been so dominant in the BCS, that this rematch scenario was inevitable, because of the way the BCS works.

All good points. If this was pre-2003 when the computers had more sway, i think OSU would have a much better shot. Also if it were Oklahoma and not Oklahoma State, they'd have a better shot. Voters have a hard time ignoring the names on the uniforms.

Been saying this for a while. It works in reverse as well i.e. Boise State being ranked top-5 for beating no one. It's previous success that has them there.
