Team A punts, the returner lets it bounce, Team A player pats it back just before it reaches the end zone into the hands of the returner.
Can Team B return the ball or is it dead when Team A made contact? What if the returner had waved his hands for a fair catch before letting it bounce?

The returner can return it and no matter what happens the ball could go back to te spot where they touched it
So if the returner fumbled, his team would still get the ball
If he scored a TD they would still get that Td
