He wanted to go for two when OU was destroying Baylor the last 6 minutes instead of going to OT and finishing the job. Then called a TO giving Baylor a free play to score with 8 seconds left.

Guy has a horrible bowl record and history of choking. But... everyone still thinks he is the shite.. I don't get it. Hell Saban out coached him in the 2003 BCS game.

Nah, I don't think it's Chip Kelly. He does well for what he has in my opinion. Mack Brown would be my pick.

Mack is

No way you should have a down year like las year at UT with their recruiting

And then follow it up with another down year

You say that as if its some kind of slight. Every rationale person I know thinks Saban is a better coach than Stoops.

Gotta agree that it's Mack. If not for VY saving his bacon, Brown would have been gone 4 years ago. Great recruiter, terrible gameday coach.

Mac Brown has beaten USC an LSU. Stoops has not.

Both have BCS trophies. Plus I live Mac.

Stoops has 7 Big 12 titles, Mack Brown 2.
Stoops- 4 NCG appearances, Mack Brown 2,
Each have one NC
Stoops leads head-to-head series 8-5.

No comparison really.

VY single handedly carried them that year. All Mack had to do was stand there with a sideline pass.

Saban outcoached Mack in the Cotton Bowl even though we lost. LSU was leading at the halftime with Marcus Randall(!!!) before Mack decided to throw the ball to Roy Williams. Again a one man show.

Plus Mack sits on a recruiting gold mine. Stoops does not. Yet Stoops has beaten Mack more times with mostly Texas talent.

Mack comes across as a genuinely nice person while Stoops is an arrogant pos. Still doesnt discount the fact that Mack <<< Stoops in coaching.

I"m not going to disagree with the comment on Oklahoma always gets the benefit of the doubt when their teams are consistently overrated but,

quote:

He wanted to go for two when OU was destroying Baylor the last 6 minutes instead of going to OT and finishing the job

Yes, he was going for the win b/c Baylor could not stop the QB BEll Power run at all. OU had a false start that backed them up 5 yards and then he had to kick the XP which would have sent them to OT. OU would have easily gotten the 2pts before the false start.

quote:

Then called a TO giving Baylor a free play to score with 8 seconds left.

That;s not what happened. Briles was stupid to try to play for overtime when he had :51 seconds left and RG3 on the field. Their first play was a run so Bob called a TO with :45 seconds so OU would have time on the clock if they forced Baylor to punt. That was the right call since OU just scored 2 TD's in 5 minutes. That time out forced Baylor to get one first down and Briles to do what he should have done to begin with.

***Mack Brown probably gets my vote. Somehow though Lane Kiffen should get a mention.

I say Brown as well, Lots of coaches could have done a better job than Mack with all the talent he has to choose from.
Stoops is just a avg. coach and a jerk.

It is easily Mack Brown, dude needs to retire.
Bob Stoops just has moments of idiocy/arrogance occasionally, as evidenced twice yesterday. I'd also rather not have him in big games.
That said, I could write a novel about coaches that are worse than Big Game Bob.

I think Briles should be mentioned also. RGIII has had to bail out his coach several times this year due to bad real time coaching decisions. Although he has not made it to a BCS bowl let alone a BCSCG he has been mentioned as one of the up and coming coaches. RGIII is the best College football player right now and is having a Brett Farve type year to help an underdog small college win big games. The coach (Briles) if he leaves will become the next Curley Hallman.

I wouldn't say Saban out coached him in the 2003 game.

Why not, his real time game decisions almost cost Baylor the game against TCU. I was at that game and the Baylor fans were very upset about how he let off the gas and let TCU take the lead. Lucky for him RGIII can move an offense into scoring position. He needed Stoops to poop the bed and RGIII to make a Flutie type throw to win the game. Briles stock is on the rise to being a top tier coach and I think he is over rated for being thought of as top tier coach. JMO, he has yet to get to the Brown and Stoops level but I can see him moving on to a better college like Curley did due to one great player.
