Did anyone else see Jefferson put Chase Clement in motion

on Ford's 15 yard run in OT to set up the GW field goal? Jefferson put the H back Clement in motion and he signaled that he was staying put. I wonder if the defense would have shifted with him if he did go in motion and the result of the play be different?

if my aunt had balls ....

Is this a knock on Jefferson, Clement, or just an observation?

I think it was just a curious observation. I noticed it as well. Would be interested to know what that was about.

Or perhaps intentional to further mislead the Bama defense.

This is simply an observation...Just wondering what Clement saw to stay on that side of the formation

Did not notice.
My guess is Chase knew his assignment and wasn't budging from your description.

Not doubting you know what you are talking about, but how do you know JJ wasn't just changing the play with the same formation with no motion.

I saw it. I've seen Jefferson do this before. I think Clement knew where he was supposed to be and stayed there.

From what I saw it didn't look like he was changing the play...I could be wrong though, but he clicked his foot back like he always does to signal motion and Chase Clement waved his hand at him as if to say I'm staying put...

I agree with another poster. This could have very well been designed for misleading the defense. By Clement waving him off and seemingly saying "I know what I'm doing" a defender could easily think that meant the play was going to the strongside.

The beautiful thing is that we don't know. And neither did Bama.

That might have been designed to counter the way that Bama's defense was shifting after LSU got set. Just a little confusion and/or hesitation on the defense can make a big difference.
Football games are full of real and fake audibles, motions and counter motions back to the original spot, defenses moving, etc.
But I'm sure all of you that actually played a little football realize this.

Exactly what my perspective was. As a former DE, If i saw that little bit of confusion with Clement being the 'winner' of the argument, I would have 95% assumed the play was coming to my side, forcing a pursuit behind the line of scrimmage rather than taking a flat angle down the line of scrimmage behind the DL.
