Probably around the 1000th thread on this, but I can't find a good one discussing it. Anyways, what do you guys think we do in order to stop/slow down Trent Richardson? Load the box? Fill the gaps? Does Chavis have a special gameplan in store? Tackle well? Same gameplan as last year? Asking this because I think it's probably the main factor in taking out Bama. I guess it's kind of obvious also.

Hit him low. If they try to knock out tackle him, he will get 5 more yards.

load the box of course, but when all is said and done you still have to tackle the guy and he is hard to bring down.

Load up the box and tackle well. Bama's WRs cant match up against our DB's. This is the KEY matchup of the game. Both teams are going to be focusing on stopping the run. Which ever team passes better will win. We can load up the box without getting burnt through the air and we arent as susceptible to the PA pass, WE WIN!

I worry about him catching passes and running down hill in open space. Hopefully our LB's can cover and take him down on swing/flare routes or screens.

I think it is the major factor. Look in the past when we have had big games and backs have just put a ton of yards on us, Irons, Mcfadden, etc. I think if you stop Richardson, especially with their current level of QB passing play we win the game IMO.

He is dangerous as hell as a dump off man. We're going to have to contain that.

Tackle well. And hold up between the tackles. If we protect the ball, we can win going away.

I would make reid his shadow and tell him to go wherever TR goes...

I'm not worried about him running up the middle. I'm worried about us flooding the box and TR gets the corner on a sweep, or if he catches one of those flare passes....

Two things:

1. Utilize team speed to get as many people to swarm as possible quickly.

2. Force him to run east/west with our speed. LBs need to fill gaps quickly and take him head on.

Gang tackling, like a spiderweb. He's going to make the first guy miss most of the time. So containment and leveraging our speed will keep him penned in. And when we get there it needs to be w force and none of that close your eyes lunge tackling. Gotta wrap up.

LSU contained Dmac on the road in 06. Dmac is the superior tailback between the two. LSU will be fine.

That's what I keep going back to....

McCarron is the one that's going to have to beat LSU, IMO. ....and what WR's that can beat LSU's DB's?

It will come down to how well we can shed blocks. If you have been watching, their oline has been blowing holes big enough for a bus to go through. I see him sitting there waiting sometimes, and he follows his blockers. If our dline gets pushed around, it's game over
