He thought Bear Bryant was a Bama player
He said that Bama didn't recruit him and he always wanted to sit down and talk with Nick Saban but never got the chance.
He wanted to go to Miami but they didn't recruit him.
Although according to Rivals he was recruited and offered a scholarship by both Universities.

It wasn't...
He was a basketball player until his junior and senior year if I am not mistaken.
So i'm sure he didn't follow football much

Historical factoids aside, he did a nice job representing LSU in that interview.

so the kid doesnt know who bear bryant was? who cares? sam montgomery is an athlete, not a fan. he was born in 1990!!
when bear bryant coached, football was a different game, since then it has evolved. i can tell you, when i was a little kid, and i was born in 83, my uncles would tell me about OU and the wishbone and OSU recruiting barry sanders and thurman thomas, and it was like, yeah yeah yeah.
i like that the kid is focused on playing the game and being the best player he can be, rather than getting invested in all the emotional ties that we as fans do. to me, montgomery has a more business like, professional approach to the game. I like it. He saves his emotions till when he is on the field.

18 year old kid from South Carolina prob doesnt give a shite who coached Alabama 35 years ago.
Id be intersested to see how many LSU players know who Cholly Mac or Jerry Stovall is.

Bear was dead nearly a decade before he was born, but I'm surprised he didn't know the name.

yea I'm not reading all that. But Bear Bryant's a legend. Pretty embarrassing that big Sam thought he was a current Bama player.
But I guess you were cool w/ JJ not knowing the difference bw George & Thomas Jefferson.

I'm 41. I can't tell you much about Shug Jordan, but I know who he is. When I was 20, I would've told you he probably works with Vanilla Ice.

Not knowing U.S. history is worse than not knowing the history of Crimson Tide football. One is a class at every school in America. The other is just a major at the University of Alabama

Glad they didn't recruit him.
