BF3 not available on Steam

LINK
I've been wanting to get BF3 for some time now, but after finding out that Steam will not be caring it due to Valve's policy of restricting them from connecting directly with consumers, not sure I want to deal with EA/Origin, sounds sketchy. Steam is by far the best distribution and support service I've ever found, and EA has been known to screw over the multi player portion of games before..
Is it worth it?

If you want to play the game, sure. It doesn't even come close to how great Steam is, but I feel it's a work in progress. I was hoping Steam would eventually carry it, but oh well.
ETA: Just realized that article is old. I know they were trying to work something out as of a couple of weeks ago. Not sure it's going to happen.

EA is so incredibly terrible at everything they do, it really blows my mind that people still buy their god-awful games. I can't even begin to imagine signing up for their steam ripoff.

EA doesn't want Steam to carry it. They want origin to compete with Steam. Of course, they will give up on origin in a few months. So if you are willing to wait it will be on Steam eventually.
Personally, I wouldn't wait unless you are willing to skip it... since a "new major 1ps" (or as I call it, recycled soulless money press) comes out every 3 months.
You can always buy it from gamersgate now. You will still have to use origin to play, though.

Have you played battlefield 3? It is a work of art. Best gameplay, visuals, and the audio is absolutely superb.
Best fps to come out in a very very long time. Solid 9.5/10 IMO. I didn't think it would be as good as bad company 2, but it's much better in every way.

The dispute stemmed from Steam wanting in on the eventual DLCs. As in they wanted a piece of the DLC pie, and so EA started up Origin to combat them. That is the storyline if I remember correctly, but we should probably brace ourselves for more peripheral launch platforms like Origin in the future.

Thats exactly I feel.
Anyone ever play mercenaries 2? When Pandemic studios went under, EA never bothered to back up the servers and re-host the online co-op. Sure its an old game and not alot of people played it, but me and some of my friends did. When I researched it, I foudn out that it wasnt the first time they "neglected their product."

Understandable. But considering how much better Steam is with keeping games patched, etc.. I would rather they have my money than Origin. I read somewhere that if your account goes inactive for a few months, Origin will decativate it? Not sure what article I got it from, but I wouldnt put it past them. I probably have around 1-2k invested in my Steam account, would hate to ever lose it.
I would get it on PS3, but we both know this game was meant to be played on PC, just like the ones before it.

how much better is it? lol i'm pretty sure patches will be immediately available on origin. my download was fast on release day.
do you realize what steam does to small/independent developers as far as prices go?
also if u buy a game off amazon download it works the same as if u bought it through EA Origin (keeps it patched and such). try to do that with steam and u can only launch the .exe through steam (it doesn't patch or anything)
why dont u just download the game through amazon? you'll save money and EA will get less of ur money, then u can still play the best PC release of the year (until skyrim perhaps)

Origin isn't bad at all. I don't know why so many people complain about it.
Posted on 10/27/11 at 9:04 pm to filmmaker45
the reason i would complain about it is that u have to open it before u can play the game.
steam does the same shite tho. remember when u used to be able to play games without being online and logged in (i know u can go in offline mode on steam but how am i supposed to predict when my internet is gonna go out)

Yeah, they actually want that for most of their games. It's called Required to Play or R2P. Other titles like The Sims and a few other require that.
It's a piracy thing.

yeah its just perfect that its easier to play pirated games than the games you paid $50 for nowadays.

The same any other corporation does to small businesses?
Ill take your suggestion and dl it from amazon, or just wait for Skyrim.
Off topic, Steam is having a Halloween sale until the 31st. Lot of decent titles around 75% off

I picked up Bioshock 1 and 2 for 10 bucks. I love Steam.
