Takingstock - any update to your Signing Bonus issue?

Employment Signing Bonus Issue

Anybody have experience with a situation like this...I was recently hired on at a large firm and signed an employment contract that stipulated I would receive a signing bonus of X. When I started, I received a signing bonus of Y, a few thousand dollars more than what I was promised. I didn't think anything of it initially but then after delving into the situation, I reported this to my boss and HR.
As of today, they're investigating the situation and I will have to pay the extra money back and they will attempt to back out the withholding I paid on the money.
Did I do the right thing? Should I have kept the bonus and hoped nobody noticed?

Yes sir. It was indeed a mistake and since I noticed it I did not feel right keeping it. I wrote a check to pay for the net amount and my employer is issuing a W2C to remove the wages from my pay come tax time. All is well!
