Overall Talent

This was brought up by a conversation that I had today with a Bama fan who says they have more "overall" talent. I chalked it up to "homerism" but it got me wondering.
If all LSU players transferred to Bama tomorrow (and were eligible by some NCAA loophole) Would the 1st string be comprised of more original Bammers or LSU transplants?

I think the talent level is pretty comparable with negligible if any overall difference. If you want to compare by position, my opinion would be this:
QB - I give the nod to LSU
RB - Trent Richardson is the best RB on either team, but LSU has a better stable of RBs.
WR - I'll take LSU's.
TE - Tough. Seems that Bama might make a little better use of theirs. Williams is good. I'll give Bama the nod.
OL - I think LSU's is strong when healthy but I'll give Bama a slight nod.
DL - LSU
LB - Bama
DB - I'd call it a draw. Maybe this is just my perception, but it seems to me their secondary might play a little more disciplined and airtight, but ours seems to make a few more plays.
Kicker - I'm not as familiar with their kicker but I'd say Alleman seems solid. If they're better, can't be by much.
Punter - Wing is the man.

If LSU and Alabama combined talent, would the beat the All-Americans from the rest of the country?

The defensive front 7 are built completely different so this is a very hard comparison. And probably the reason a bama fan would make this claim. Our starters wouldn't start for them at Lb and DE, and theirs wouldn't start for lsu.

No.. not even close.. Trent Richardson and maybe TM7 are the only players I'd say are the best at their position in the country..
Given the best O line that the country has to offer could make several RBs better than Richardson though.. and taking Andrew Luck or Landry Jones to Robert Woods, Ryan Broyles, Justin Blackmon, and Kendall Wright all game would just be unreal.

IDK. Combining the best 2 defenses in the country would be difficult for any team to beat.
But, I agree with you.

If the teams were mixed I would think this would be a pretty legit lineup.
QB- Lee just bc of experience
RB- Richardson
FB- Copeland
WR- Randle
WR- Maze
TE- Peterson
OT- Barrett Jones
OG- Blackwell
C- Vlachos
OG- Warmack
OT- Faulk
6- LSU
5- Bama
DE- Mongomery
DT- Brockers
DT- Jesse Williams
DE- Adams
LB- Upshaw
LB- Hightower
LB- Baker
CB- Claiborne
CB- Kirkpatrick (of course Tyrann in the Nickel)
S- Barron
S- Taylor
6-LSU (If the team was going to run a 4-3)
5-Bama
K- Alleman
P- Wing
KR- Maze
PR- Maze
2- LSU
2- Bama

Where you see the depth of overall talent is on ST and that's lopsidedly in favor of LSU in every aspect.

LSU is a younger team and every bit as good as Bama. I'm going to go with LSU...

The historical recruiting rankings indicate that Bama has more talent by a small margin.
