I'm sure he means new, but if you haven't checked out the old, it's one of my favorite horror movies.

Reviews for the new one have been blisteringly bad.

Harry over at AICN took a dump on it and he loves some of the worst crap out there. Even more so than Ipodking.

I keep reading it's a remake disguised as a prequel. Which is what I feared...same shite with CGI.

Someone on here posted last week that it was hugely entertaining and was glad they made it.

So, who knows?

These people probably gave their money to Real Steel too, so you're better off ignoring anyone who liked this.

Spoilers!!!

It's definately a prequel...they actually do a perfect job of tieing in everything that leads to the 1982 movie with Kurt Russel!! I enjoyed every minute of it although i have to admit they do go a little far at times with the CGI but i figured it would be that way!!

I'm assuming I'm the one he was talking about that liked it. I thought it was a good movie for what it was. I hope you weren't expecting it to be better than John Carpenter's.

Real Steel looks lame to me, so no I didn't give them my money or any other movie in a theater since Team America came out.

Sadly, CGI is what everyone is going to use nowadays and most movies will use it instead of putting a plot in their movie. The Thing doesn't do that. I does give off the feel of a remake, but it is a prequel. Go into it knowing those things and you shouldn't be upset with it.

Did you watch the movie, or are you going by a website's review of it?

just got back from watching it. i've never seen carpenters version so i can't say if it's better or worse, but i liked this version. my only problem with it is that it was loud. that might have been the theaters fault though. but i thought it was pretty damn suspenseful. also, like i said, i've never seen the original so i missed the parts that tied it to the original. all in all, i give it an 8/10. i enjoyed it.

btw, i enjoyed real steel. it was very rocky-esque, but who cares. just enjoy for what it is and don't go in thinking it's a crap movie.

You should definitely watch John Carpenter's version. Should be an interesting experience since you'll be seeing them in chronological order.

Kinda like watching Star Wars from episode 1 to 6 .

They left the door open with Dr. Lloyd at the end...maybe she'll pick up MacReady and Childs, and a third movie will be a go!

this. i just watched the original on netflix. it was pretty good as well. just cheesy special effects, but that's waived due to the fact it was made 30 years ago. my question is it seemed like the original took place the next day from the new movie. with that being said, when macready went to the norweigen camp, everything was frozen over with 12 inch icicles. can that really happen over night?

That's a damn good question. I haven't seen the new one yet, but in the original, the 2 guys shooting at the infected dog that got loose had to be at the end of the prequel, which would mean it would be the very next day.

Then A New Hope would have had a real life meaning to the desperate viewer.

I'm sure if he saw the original he would say it's boring, and that the effects are stupid.

This movie's answer to the blood test scene is using a flashlight to check for fillings... yeah.

they were good for '82. and more gore than what i expected. i'm 21, so cut me some slack.

also, depending the time difference between the two attacks on the norweigen and u.s. bases, i guess it's based on the time (spoiler)

the girl torching the guy in the bulldozer at the end and the helicopter picking the guy up at the norweigen camp as the dog runs away and they fly to the u.s. camp.

end spoiler.
