And that's about it. :(
With the mill in Bastrop having closed and GP in Crossett closing and the old Guide plant still empty, more people in that region will be job hunting than ever before. There may, however, be some money to be made starting a business around Sterlington/Frenchman's Bend as that are has EXPLODED in growth over the past 5-6 years.

I grew up in Monroe and graduated college from ULM 10 years ago. Since college, I moved on with a construction management degree bein that there was no work around town for my expectations. This move has paid off extremely well for me and I could not imagine living there again, ever.
My dad was a victim of the IP mill closurein Bastrop, but stayed with the company and was transferred to the Mansfield mill. He has another house there and commutes back to Monroe onthe weekend, just so he could stay with the company 4 more years to collect his pension in full. He is retiring from IP in March after 32 years with IP, and hopes to work as a consultant in the Monroe area for a few more years due to not wanting to completely retire at 54 years old. He's degrees in electrical engineering from Tech and tells me he doesn't see many options there in the industry.
