I am switching to crabbing out of the canoe along the shore and bayou lacombe. Do soft shell crabs start at a certain time? Can i catch these with a scoop net? anything to know about crabbing? tides/weather/good & bad months?

If you are in Mandeville, go to the old Coast Guard Station in Madisonville. Use nets from the pier. During the week is best, crowded on weekends. You should catch a couple dozen from the pier w/i 90 min or so. Gumbo size mostly.

Sorry but I laughed. Keep at it bro, I have nothing to add about crabbing.

i've taken the kids there to fish. It seems to be hit and miss. Normally catch some croaker and that is about it.
I purchased a canoe to get me closer to the reds trout in the area, but after 3 trips i am batting .000 It has become more frustrating than relaxing.

Where are you fishing that you can't catch em? I've been hard pressed to not put 30 in the boat the past month or so. Granted the majority are too small to keep.

I purchased a canoe a few months ago...so i have been going out off of lake road to the mouth of Bayou Lacombe and then fishing along the grass to the west of lake road trying to hit all of the little cuts. tried dead shrimp under a cork, artificial, top water...no luck whatsoever

If you really want to catch fish, try the bridge in Grand Isle. Use small double sparkle beetles. It's a drive, but you will catch more white trout than you know what to do with. Also may catch a few specs. Good luck.

Go the morning after a full moon. Early morning, walk through the grass flats. Hard shell crabs will run, soft shells just lay there (TWHS) LOL. I have also caught them in a seine pulled through the grass, but it takes 2 people.
Good luck. Hope you get some.

I don't know. We used to go all the time when I was a kid in Louisiana (long time ago). Here in Florida, you must have a saltwater license.

None, there's just a 12 dozen a person daily limit I believe.
