Texas A&M marginalized one of the best athletic directors in the country. Byrne opposes going to the SEC and wasn't allowed to speak on the issue. Hey, A&M, why do you think the SEC is even interested in you? It's because Byrne has made strong hires and built the Aggies' overall program into something that has teeth.

Are there fractures in the Aggies resolve to move to the SEC. I hope not. There is not a single thread about this on Texags so maybe this is just a Sip spin to make themselves feel better.

Total sip spin.

If the Aggies don't go to SEC, it's because they dropped football.

Next time, POST THE LINK!!!!!!!!

I live in Fort Worth. The Statesman is all pro Texas. Weak link, biased reporting and no one here puts very much stock in their "objective" reporting. Kind of like OU, they are "owned" by UT. It's the last source I would look to for accurate reporting of any of this.........

Kirk Bohls, the biggest Homer reporter for the Horns wrote it... Re read the first line, winners, texas, does texas ever lose? You should have stopped there.

This is another one of those opinionated columnist who has the plaque "Don't Mess with Texas" on his wall, believing the slogan refers to the University of Texas, and anyone who messes with Texas is a loser.

People actually believe hype like that.

Byrne did not want to to to the SEC last year, when it looked like the Big XII was dissolving, and a package was going to be put together with OU, OSU, Texas, Tech, and Colorado. Byrne liked the easier travel and the familiarity. So, to say he was against the SEC last year is 100% accurate.

However, there have been developments since last year, notably, the Longhorn Network. No one has been more pissed off about how that has been handled than Byrne. He may still have some reservations about the SEC, but it would not be like Byrne to sit in complete silence if he really opposed the move. The decision is being made at a higher paygrade than AD, but, Byrne is no shrinking violet.

He is close to retirement, and, when he does retire, he has indicated that he plans to move to Tuscon where his son Greg is that AD at Arizona.

BS. SEC interest in A&M has nothing to do with their current level of competitiveness.
