This Friday, the two schools with the oldest high school football rivalry will hit the field: Haynesville Golden Tornado vs. Homer Pelicans.

They began playing in 1907. This will be their 105th year to play on the gridiron.

I'm betting Haynesville will win this one.

They are more known for their play on the gridiron than the diamond.

They have won 15 State Championships. The most of any public school in the state.

Ah good ol Haynesville. I went out a couple of times with a girl from there. Still friends with a girl from Homer. Talk about country.

Haynesville had some pretty stout teams in the 90's from what I remember. They'd throw it like 3 times a game and run for like 500 yards

They beat #1 in 5A at the time, defending state champion West Monroe AT West Monroe 16-7 that year. Bobby Ray Tell was a monster.

sounds about right. I think they won like 40 something in a row and just steamrolled most everyone, even the heavyweights in 4A and 5A

I'm glad that they were in 2A, when we were in the Shreveport area 1A district.
