Is it me or does it seem like since the Super Bowl run, the Saints have lost their sense of urgency? not saying they don't care anymore, but it just seems that along the way that season, since they had overcome large deficits, got out of tight spots, and handled every adversity as if it were predestined, they seem to think that eventually they, no matter what, will get it clicking and overcome whatever the obstacle, yet it doesn't seem to be happening anymore....

it seems they come out flat, or ill-prepared, get down early, then put it all on Brees to throw their way back into the game.... problem is if he's off, we're screwed.... it seems like there is less sense of starting off the game in the right direction and more catch up ball being played, rather than coming out and playing from a lead....

we all know our offense works best when we maintain balance, rather than sling it all game long, but when we get down early, like tonight, we end up having to do exactly that: sling it all over the field to gain chunks of yards to try to get back into the game, often running out of time before getting an equalizer or compounding our problems by turning the ball over if Drew isn't sharp that day....

No, last year we were a good team. We beat the AFC Champion and were a missed field goal away from sweeping the Falcons. We do have a lot of new faces on this team. Some of them have done well, others have not. It is just Week 1, and this game could have been worse than it was. With some more time, I think we become stronger and make the run that we should.

I don't really think you can chalk this game up to sense of urgency or the team starting lackadaisical.

The Packers scored. We turned the ball over two plays into our first possession. We were down 14-0 before we had a chance to even react to the way the game was developing.

Before the game, I was really hoping we'd get the opening kick. It might have helped us tremendously to go down and score -- quiet down the GB fans, and put the pressure on the Packers to match us, rather than vice versa.

Oh well. On to Chicago.

The Cleveland game last year was the only one of the losses where we were trailing after the 1st.

, then what would you chalk the beginning of tonight up to? our defense looked like they were still waking up, and Colston puts it on the turf 2nd play in....

this is exactly what i'm talking about.... why can't we set the tone, instead of having to "react to the game" development? GB obviously intended on setting the tone with their first drive offensively, so why not us defensively? why not come out in press man coverage with 2 safeties over the top, turn our DE's up field, funnel everything to the middle of our DL, and have our LBs man everyone else?

with the exception of FB, DT, SLB, RT, and LE, all of our starters were starters last year to open the season.... that's a lot of continuity, so i don't really get the "new faces" talk... yeah, we have new players on the roster, but to be fair, so does everyone else...

No, last year we were a good team

no one is debating that... they were and are a good team... but like i have said ad nauseam, this organization is past having "good" teams.... we have to take that step and expect championship caliber teams... i don't feel that we have taken that step, and considering we had that once, we aren't heading in the right direction, obviously....

We beat the AFC Champion

not when it counted....

were a missed field goal away from sweeping the Falcons

sorry, but i don't set my standard by which i judge this club as how many times we beat Atlanta.... and by the same token, i could easily say to refute your "who we beat" claim, we lost to Cleveland and Arizona, two teams we had no business losing to...

With some more time

how much more time? one week? two weeks? they've had 4 preseason games, and one regular season games, and yet, we still see the same poor tackling, lack of execution, and general bad performance that plagued us to end last season.... our window of opportunity for a championship run won't be open forever, and with each passing season, it slips further away... if we had a younger franchise QB i could deal with "one more year", but we just don't have that luxury now... we have to design and build our teams for the here and now because it is now that our chance for another championship is best....

It looked like we started the game in pretty strict man. And Patrick Robinson got fricking abused, twice. Once for a huge gain, and again for a touchdown.

We also probably didn't want to go too nuts with our DE's, because Smith is suspended and Jordan was playing his first professional game and couldn't handle anything too strenuous.

And again. Our game is to blitz and discomfort the QB, not drop Harper into coverage. We tried that, and it didn't work. Now, you could argue that shouldn't have been our gameplan, but oh well.

I think our defense is good enough that, coupled with our offense, we can go a long way. But I just don't think we could have ever hoped to "set the tone" against that offense. Not with our OLB's, and not with Will Smith on the sideline.

I have a pretty good feeling that we just played the best team we'll play all season, and I bet you'll see the "sense of urgency" you're after against the Bears.

Well before you put our new faces on trial, why not observe what the rest of the league does also during Week 1.

I just say your impatient. Its a long season, plenty can happen between now and the first week of February. Look, losing one game to the defending champion is not a big deal. Are there questions? Sure there are as would be with any team. Every team will deal with adversity but questioning this team's sense of urgency just sounds like to me that you are just spoiled by the recent success and fail to realize the parity in the league.
