SportsBizMiss visits Kyle Field

report here
"The stands shake. When the Aggies sway, Kyle Field sways. Be prepared a kickoff and between the third and fourth quarters. I was warned the press box would shake. I’m pretty sure it was at least a 3.0 magnitude earthquake in there. I got my feet on solid ground down on the field for the third and fourth quarters."
I assume she saw the warning sign in the press box:
"Welcome to Kyle Field. For those of you visiting for the first time, please do not be alarmed. The press box will move during the Aggie War Hymn."

The Kyle Field infrastructure does concern me. Hopefully this is something that gets addressed during renovations.

this is not a shot at all and please don't take it the wrong way but after the bonfire tragedy wouldn't A&M be even more concerned about the safety at Kyle Field? Is it really a concern because it looks scary on TV with how it's built and it's getting up there in years. Also I'm sure all the moving and swaying by the fans doesn't help.

They definitely need to update the structure, it's aging and the shaking can't help. Kind of unrelated to the issues with Bonfire though in my opinion

There are 'life issues' or something described like that in the plan that they had to update the athletic facilities a few years back.
Most of those life issues as I recall relate to the limited number of ramps and their size, the small number of bathrooms, fire issues with the Read Building built into the side of it on the student side and G. Rollie White taking up a portion of what would be the stadiums natural footprint if it was built new today.
The I've never head anything about the swaying being detrimental to the stadium. FWIW, the press box is a free standing building.
Bonfire, sadly, was a tragedy waiting to happen.

Reminds me of issues we used to have here at SC. Hell just noticed on the wiki page it references A&M.
Williams-Brice Stadium

The new east upper deck created some controversy during the 1983 season. Fans reported it was noticeably swaying--as much as a foot by some accounts. The swaying was especially pronounced during a game in which the Gamecocks routed Southern Cal 38–14. Joe Morrison was subsequently quoted as saying, "If it ain't swayin', we ain't playin'"--a phrase that eventually made it onto bumper stickers and other items, and is still a popular saying today. Giant shock absorbers were installed under the east upper deck for the 1987 season, however, during the 1988 season, many spectators reported seeing a ripple effect across the east upper deck when the marching band played the song "Louie Louie." The university indicated that the sway or ripple was safe. To this day, the east upper deck still sways when fans jump up and down. A similar effect has been noticed at Texas A&M's Kyle Field. In addition, several parts of the stadium have been known to vibrate due to the decibel levels generated during a typical game.

it just seems that schools, stadiums, cities, etc that have had a tragedy in the past might be more proactive than someone else that hasn't. that's why i mentioned it.

That's true. Bonfire, unfortunately as a poster stated above, seemed to be a tragedy waiting to happen and because it was such a sacred tradition there were issues that come with changing something so sacred.
Kyle Field has had several renovations and more are in the works, I would think engineering studies are done on it when these renovations are in the planning stages, but I don't know for sure. An update to the structure during the next renovations would be reassuring, but I don't think it's on the verge of collapsing or anything (at least I sure as shite hope not).

The swaying of the stands is acceptable movement from an engineering standpoint (like skyscrapers with wind) and there is no safety concern about collapse.
So "sway on" Kyle, and BTHO every last big 12-2-1 team.

Central Florida has the same problems.

The stadium has been referred to by some as "The Trampoline" or "Bouncehouse" because of fans jumping during Zombie Nation's song "Kernkraft 400." [27] The all-steel seating areas are known to reverberate and noticeably bounce. While many fans like this feature, some are uneasy with the bouncing. Stadium officials claimed the stadium was structurally sound, and an independent contractor confirmed that the bouncing will not damage the stadium and shorten its expected 50-year useful life. Still, a project was begun prior to the 2008 season to reinforce the stadium superstructure and mitigate the bouncing effect.[28] While the bouncing has been greatly reduced, it is still noticeable, and sometimes enough to shake TV cameras during televised games. For the 2010 Conference USA Football Championship Game, ESPN2 for their television production set-up a camera position outside of the stadium to eliminate camera bounce caused by fans.[29] There is a popular movement on the UCF campus to refer to Bright House Networks Stadium as "The Dungeon," "The Trampoline," or "The Bright House."[30]

But all-steel seating (which you normally see at high-school stadiums) is going to have more of a vibration than a concrete structure should.

and what about the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band...soon SEC fans will admire it at first sight.
Truly spectacular. Great read!
